Frequently asked questions

What does Squad share?

Only if you join Squad: a generated squad name (never your real name), an avatar from a list, a random device ID, your daily count of right answers and goal, your friend links, quests, and a notification token if you allow notifications. Friends see your squad name, avatar and practice progress. Grades, classes and flashcards never leave your phone, and there is no chat. See the Privacy Policy.

Does anything leave my phone if I don't join Squad?

If you turn on the save-code backup, your progress (never your name) is saved to it. Otherwise, only an anonymous practice tally when you finish a round: the day, your grade, your region (and district, for Texas or Massachusetts), the subject and topic, how many you got right out of how many, and a random app-install ID so we can count how many people practice. Once a day the app also notes that it was opened (day, phone type, app version, grade, region and a few yes/no settings) so we can count active users. In Europe (EU/EEA, UK, Switzerland) no install ID or other phone identifier is sent at all. No name, and nothing linked to Squad or to who you are. We use the averages to improve topics and study plans. See Anonymous practice statistics.

Can I use Grade Ace on a computer?

Yes. Open app.gradeace.arghanstudios.com in any browser. It's the same app with no account. Your progress stays in that browser, so on a shared school computer tap Me → Sign out on this computer when you're done.

How do I move my progress to another phone or computer?

On the device that has your progress, tap Me → Back up my progress to get a 12-character save code (like ABCD-EFGH-JKMN). Write it down. On the other device, tap I have a save code (on the first screen, or in Me), type the code and your first name. Changes save to your backup on their own. Your first name is never uploaded, and anyone with the code can see your progress, so keep it private. Lost your code? If one device still shows it, tap See my save code there.

What does the backup save?

Your classes and grades, practice progress, flame days, flashcards and settings — not your name and not Squad. See Save-code backup in the Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my data?

Open the Me tab. Leave squad & delete my squad data removes everything about you stored on our server (anonymous practice tallies aren't linked to you, so there's nothing of yours to delete). Me → See my save code → Delete my backup deletes your backup from our server. Start over also erases your classes, grades and cards on the phone (your backup stays until you delete it). Deleting the app erases what is on the phone. Parents can also email us with questions or requests.

How do I change my friend code or nickname?

In the Squad tab, tap your code to get a new one; your friends stay, but the old code stops working. Tap the dice button (New name) to pick a different generated squad name, and tap your avatar to change it. Nicknames are picked by the app, not typed.

How do reminders work?

The flame reminder is optional (Me tab, On or Off). It is a notification scheduled on your phone, usually around 6 pm if you have not practiced yet that day. It is not sent from a server. Squad quest alerts are separate and only come if you allow notifications and join Squad.

My school district is not listed.

Choose your state, search for your district, and if it is not there tap "My district isn't listed." Grade Ace still works; practice just will not be matched to a specific district. Tell us which district you would like added.

Is Grade Ace free?

Yes. There are no ads, no in-app purchases and no accounts. It works on phones and on the web.
